With the update for the third quarter, SAP delivers numerous innovations and features for the cloud products SAP Data Warehouse Cloud (DWC) and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). Some of these innovations were already presented in our webinar on 07.09.2022 and are summarized again below.
***You don't feel like reading? Below you will find a webinar recording of the feature update!***
1. remote conversion as the most important DWC feature
For the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud (DWC) the Q3 update introduced 26 new features on the roadmap, of which the remote conversion to the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW Bridge is particularly interesting.
1.1 What is Remote Conversion?
In addition to the Shell Conversion already made available in Q2/2022, the Remote Conversion is another conversion approach from SAP. Remote Conversion is a so-called brownfield approach, which makes it possible to also transfer the data available in the BW system (e.g. from DataStore objects (advanced)) into the SAP BW Bridge. This means that the user can decide whether an entire data flow or only individual parts of a data flow are to be transferred to the BW Bridge and thus to the DWC.
The data flows should be checked in advance for this purpose - even codings, e.g. for start or end routines in transformations, must be checked in order to recognize whether these can be converted or adapted or whether they cannot possibly be adopted in exceptional cases.
More about features of SAP BW Bridge including an illumination of conversion possibilities can be found in this Wiki article.
1.2 What are the (system) requirements for remote conversion?
For a successful conversion from BW systems to the BW Bridge, it is necessary to import various Notes into the existing BW system. SAP has its own Notes and How-to's necessary for the conversion, which must be processed for a conversion.
It is also important to note that Remote Conversion is available from an SAP BW version of 7.3x and is therefore downward compatible. So if on-premise BW systems with a version of e.g. 7.35 are still in use, it is also possible to transfer data flows from these.

2. important features of the SAC
In the area of SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) the roadmap for the third quarter of 2022 contained a whole 29 new features, of which the ability to cancel running data actions, display of leaf elements for the account dimension , and improvements to the Optimized Story Experience are particularly noteworthy.
2.1 Optimized Story Experience
While the two modes Optimized Design Experience and Optimized View Mode could previously be used by models based on SAP HANA, SAP BW and Acquired Analytics Data Models, the Q3 2022 update brings an extension of these to include Planning and DWC models.
The update also brings improvements in the area of linked analysis. Linked Analysis filters can now be tracked under the menu options of the individual widgets without generating a local filter.
The input controls that were already available for other dimensions have been extended and are now also available for the account dimension as a measure-based filter. Users can create story and page filters based on a range of metrics. One of the things to note here is that planning operations for tables with a measure-based filter are disabled.
2.2 Representation of the leaf elements of the Account Dimension
Another feature that was only available for other dimensions prior to Q3 2022 has also been introduced for the Account dimension with this update - the ability to display only the leaf elements of the dimension. This feature makes it easier for users to enter data at the lowest level of the hierarchy without having to go through the hierarchy to the lowest level.
This new feature is also supported for models with multiple account hierarchies and based on classic account models (Classic Account Model) as well as the new model type (New Model).
2.3 Canceling running Data Actions
If data actions are started, e.g. via a trigger in a story, they can be canceled via the Data Action Monitor . They can be canceled regardless of the current status of the data action - pending or running - and the data and version can thus be reset to the previous status.
Since no data in the model is changed when canceling pending data actions, users can start another data action directly afterwards, while canceling data actions that are already being executed takes a little more time to reset possible changes.
