FINMA – Visualization of Your Financial Indicators
The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA regularly publishes the regulatory Annual Financial Statements (Balance & Profit/Loss Account) of all Swiss insurance companies. For the years 2008 to 2015, we have merged the Financial Statements of these 148 insurers in a data base and a data model.
Please note: All original FINMA figures provided by the source link below are available in German and French only.

Report Name: Balance & Profit/Loss Account
Description: Balance & Profit/Loss Account of the Swiss insurance companies (w/o subsidiaries of foreign insurance companies and health insurance providers)
Due to identical structure (FINMA) and to identical currency (CHF), the data base for all business years mentioned above (2008–15) can be analyzed historically. Respectively it includes the four segments of Life, Property, Health and Reinsurance.
On this basis, s-peers have edited and visualized all relevant financial indicators prototypically by reference to the IBCS® (International Business Communication Standards) for you. The result is an informative document which comprehensibly exemplifies the visualization of corporate data following the IBCS®.

Within the scope of reporting (internal as well as external), standardized guidelines resp. notation concepts are so far applied – on a global scale – only insufficiently or not at all. Instead, company-specific versions are used very frequently. Some enterprises even waive notation and layout standards completely. But this always increases the danger of suboptimal resp. comparatively worse decisions due to missing, incomplete and/or misleading information.
In view of this fact, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rolf Hichert has developed the HICHERT®SUCCESS guidelines with the aim of standardizing Corporate Reporting. The purpose of this standard reference is to bring more transparency into formal business communication as well as into management reports and presentations.
To promote the internationalization of these guidelines, the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS®) were published in 2013 by HICHERT+FAISST.
The IBCS® can be understood as an advancement of the SUCCESS rules. Basically, they represent a true-and-fair view in business communication – realized by:
- Reduction to the essentials while information density is increased
- Systematic standardization for a consistent visual language
- Consistent structures and clear messages in reporting
- Quick comprehension and pattern recognition by readers
As efficient guidelines in the field of Management Information Design, the IBCS® have become more and more important in recent years: Many international group corporations now use this concept in their internal and external business communication. In practice, more and more enterprises therefore rely on the preparation of notation concepts which standardize and visualize the reporting successfully following the IBCS®.
The efficiency of a systematic and global standardization can be clarified e. g. by the example of music: For generations, composers have been using a standardized visual language for their scores – thanks to the worldwide validity of musical notation, musicians of very different native tongues can play compositions together without any problems. A similar example are wiring diagrams whose standardized elements have the same significance for engineers all over the world.
s-peers are convinced that this approach represents an optimum solution for your Corporate Reporting as well: When identical contents are always depicted in an identical way, reports can be read much faster and be understood considerably better – which in turn results in better decisions and makes an active contribution to the increase of your business success.
