It operates the country’s pharmacy network (including Amavita, Sun Store, and Coop Vitality) and is known to a broad audience through well-known OTC (over-the-counter) brands. As of June 2025, the Galenica Group employs nearly 8,000 people.

Before the transformation, our workforce planning was a time-consuming, manual process characterized by Excel silos. By implementing the integrated solution based on SAP Datasphere and SAC, we have not only drastically reduced the effort involved but also significantly improved the quality of our planning.

The Challenge

In its workforce planning, Galenica AG was faced with an outdated HCM solution that relied primarily on manual ERP transactions . This required time-consuming manual work in Excel for data preparation and consolidation, resulting in high workload and a high risk of errors .

The main challenge was to develop a new, future-proof and automated planning solution . At the same time, the loss of planning functions resulting from the implementation of SAP SuccessFactors had to be compensated for. The main goal was to eliminate manual processes, create a seamless system integration, and improve increase planning quality to 95% by basing planning directly on validated actual data (payroll runs).
