About the tool
SAP Lumira Designer is the further development of the former SAP Business Objects Design Studio and is suitable for individual dashboard development. Until the release of SAP Analytics Cloud, the application was the flagship of the SAP BI portfolio.
A web application can be developed in an Eclipse-based development environment, with which a generous BI content can be accessed. Here, a programming language similar to JavaScript is available to the developer to incorporate functions in the dashboard. CSS can also be used to change the appearance of the dashboard., of individual components can be changed.
What features came with the latest version?
With the latest version 2.4 came the following new features:
Tile Container
A structural element that creates responsive behaviour on the interface.
Export options
The Export to PDF and XLSX files is possible.
What are the advantages of using SAP Analytics Cloud instead of Lumira Designer?
- SAP Lumira Designer is merely a front-end reporting tool. SAP Analytics Cloud, on the other hand, offers its own data modeling capabilities, planning and predictive analytics in one tool.
- For IBCS-compliant reporting, a paid add-on must be used for Lumira Designer. The SAP Analytics Cloud already offers IBCS-compliant display options.
- The SAP Analytics Cloud offers practical communication functions for employees.
- Many source systems cannot be connected directly to SAP Lumira Designer. Connection is usually only possible via a diversion with BO Universes, especially for non-SAP systems. The SAP Analytics Cloud offers a variety of connection options for SAP and non-SAP systems.
- A local installation and a Business Objects platform are required. This is not the case with the SAP Analytics Cloud.
