Table of contents

Artificial intelligence, also known as AI, is a concept that enables software to perform cognitive tasks that would normally require human intelligence.

The central idea is to develop systems that are capable of performing human-like thought processes or at least intelligent actions. This includes learning, reasoning, problem solving and even understanding natural language (natural language processing).

Machine Learning

Machine learning (ML) is an important sub-area in the world of artificial intelligence. The algorithms in machine learning enable systems to automatically adapt and optimize themselves based on data without having to be explicitly programmed. There are various approaches, including supervised learning, unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning.

Deep learning is a form of ML that uses complex neural networks to recognize patterns in data.

What are the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence?

Recent advances in AI have increasingly focused on the development of so-called "General Artificial Intelligence" (AGI), which is capable of solving a variety of tasks with human-like intelligence. New techniques such as transfer learning and self-learning systems enable AI systems to improve in various domains without human intervention.
The progress made in recent years in the field of natural language processing (NLP), which enables AI systems to hold human-like conversations and perform complex tasks, can hardly be overestimated.
Even if it is only one of many, ChatGPT is certainly by far the best-known application in the field of NLP today.

Further information on the difference between artificial intelligence and machine learning can be found in this wiki article.
