The future of on-premise analytics suite "SAP BusinessObjects BI" is now in the cloud!

SAP BusinessObject BI
Take the right path!

Update October 2023: SAP has decided to include Lumira Designer in SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025.

The Statement of Direction for SAP Analytics Business Intelligence provides customers with guidance for the future development of SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP BusinessObjects solutions. In the latest version, which was published this month, there are some important updates.

SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Direction Statement - Update October 2023

SAP Analytics Cloud is SAP's leading analytics and planning tool that helps customers analyze their business data in context and make informed decisions. The integration of business intelligence, planning and forecasting in a cloud solution enables customers to integrate data analysis directly into their workflow and gain valuable insights from the data.

The vision for SAP Analytics Cloud is to provide trusted analytics that can be used by any user in any situation. Through comprehensive knowledge of customer data and integration into continuous business processes, analytics can be deployed quickly and help solve key business problems. SAP's enhancements focus on enterprise analytics, BI solutions and integration with SAP.

For customers using SAP BusinessObjects BI, SAP wants to ensure that they are not left behind. SAP therefore strongly recommends that all customers upgrade to version 4.3 to benefit from the latest features, platforms, connectivity and security standards and enjoy a modern user experience in BI Launchpad and Web Intelligence.

To further maximize value for customers, SAP is focusing on the most popular SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions, including SAP BusinessObjects, Web Intelligence, Single Source Universes, SAP Crystal Reports, SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office, Lumira Designer and the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform. SAP will continue to enhance the capabilities of SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, optimize SAP Crystal Reports and add support for universes to facilitate migration from Crystal Reports for Enterprise. SAP will also remove Lumira Discovery, SAP BusinessObjects Universe Design Tool and Universes, Multi-Source Universes, SAP BusinessObjects Analysis Edition for OLAP, SAP BusinessObjects Live Office and SAP BusinessObjects Mobile from version 2025 and recommend alternatives for unsupported use cases.

These adjustments were made in October 2023 and relate to the following SAP update: SAP Analytics Business Intelligence Statement of Direction - October 2023 update | SAP Blogs

In the following section you will find the original article of s-peers AG, which we published in August 2023. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The SAP support for SAP BusinessObjects (SAP BOBI) Suite 4.2 expires at the end of 2024, and standard maintenance for SAP BOBI 4.3 Suite ends in 2025 (extended maintenance in 2027).

Nevertheless, with the new SAP BOBI Suite 2025, SAP offers its on-premises customers investment security in their analytics developments beyond 2030 - albeit with limitations.

Check SAP Analytics Cloud now to stay up to date

Therefore, check your next steps early on and take the path to the cloud with us. This way, you benefit from new comprehensive functions and a modern user interface and stay up-to-date with your business intelligence solution!

In the area of business intelligence (BI), SAP has offered its customers powerful solutions in the past with SAP BOBI Suite and SAP Analytics Cloud. In recent years, the SAP Analytics Cloud has become increasingly established as a reporting and planning solution and is also positioned as a strategic SAP product for the future.

Probably the biggest advantage of SAP Analytics Cloud is a comprehensive, self-contained concept that enables all processes from data collection to analytical evaluation in its own platform. SAP Analytics Cloud offers live connectivity to SAP data sources such as SAP HANA, SAP BW, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Datasphere and SAP BusinessObjects universes. In addition, the integration of data from SAP and non-SAP systems will be significantly expanded strategically by further integrating SAP Analytics Cloud with SAP Datasphere - the strategic data management solution from the public cloud.

For example, customers benefit from additional live data connectivity and semantic data modeling capabilities.

End of Standard Maintenance: SAP BI 4.3 Suite Components until December 2025

Even though the standard maintenance of SAP BOBI Suite 4.3 will end in 2025, SAP will offer its customers the option of continuing to operate their developments with SAP BOBI Suite 2025, but only if they were created with SAP BO Web Intelligence, SAP Crystal Reports or SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office. The first roll-out of SAP BOBI Suite 2025 is scheduled for Q4 2024.

Despite a standard maintenance until the end of 2029 (extended maintenance until the end of 2031), SAP BOBI Suite 2025 is a kind of transitional solution, as the following components are no longer included:

  • SAP Lumira
  • SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise
  • SAP BusinessObjects Universe Design Tool and .unv universes
  • Multi-source universes and associated connectivity
  • SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, Edition for OLAP
  • SAP BusinessObjects Live Office
  • SAP BusinessObjects Mobile

Standard Maintenance for the aforementioned SAP BI 4.3 Suite components will therefore end in December 2025.

Next Step - Public Cloud

Now you should check the next steps and take the right path! For these reasons, both SAP and we at s-peers AG strongly recommend examining the next steps early on and creating clarity on how to approach the journey to the public cloud, i.e. to the SAP Analytics Cloud and the SAP Datasphere.

We would be happy to support you on your way there.
