Sensirion and s-peers: using environmental sensors to develop a concept for automated air quality assurance

With the help of sensor expert Sensirion from Stäfa, s-peers AG from Tägerwilen is developing an innovative concept for storing, analysing and forecasting air quality data.

Air quality and regular ventilation have gained much relevance in pandemic times. Smallest droplets (so-called aerosols) are not only emitted when coughing or sneezing, but also during normal breathing and talking. Viruses can be found in these aerosols. That is why frequent and effective ventilation is more important than ever. The more fresh air, the less exhaled air with possible viruses is in a closed room. Optimal air quality also increases concentration and prevents fatigue, headaches or a drop in performance. With the help of the s-peers concept and the use of Sensirion's industry-leading environmental sensors, automated monitoring and control of air quality becomes possible. If the value rises above a critical threshold, the system sends a signal and prompts to open the windows, for example. This ensures that ventilation is not forgotten or is not carried out too late. In addition, the air quality is documented and thus a healthier working environment can be ensured.

Thanks to the sensor data, it is possible to provide forecasts for when and with how many people the room is occupied or at what time it is necessary to ventilate or leave the room. This is particularly relevant for schools, events, libraries or open-plan offices.

The WHO describes air pollution, especially high concentrations of particulate matter, as one of the greatest health risks - on a par with smoking. Therefore, it is also of enormous relevance for companies or cities to measure outdoor air data. Reliable and cost-effective sensor technology provides immediate feedback when air quality deteriorates. For companies with their own production facilities, early detection of process errors that can lead to environmental pollution is of great interest. It can also increase the safety of production workers. Sensor solutions such as Sensirion's Nubo Air are already being used in city centers. data to make optimal decisions or to optimize air quality with the help of intelligent traffic light circuits for
