Amazon Redshift is a fully managed, cloud-based, petabyte-scale data warehouse product designed for storing and analyzing large data sets. Redshift's columnar database is designed to connect with SQL-based clients and business intelligence tools to deliver real-time data to users. Redshift is based on PostgreSQL 8 and offers high performance even for large data sets to help companies make informed business decisions.
How does the connection between SAP, DWC and AWS Redshift work?
The SAP Data Warehouse Cloud (DWC) has data connectors to a variety of different systems, such as Amazon Redshift and, of course, SAP systems. If there is data on Amazon Redshift that is to be analyzed together with SAP data, the SAP DWC can serve as a bridge between these two source systems. The decisive advantage of the SAP DWC is the virtual access to the source systems: Only the necessary data for the current access is obtained in real time from the sources involved. Calculations required for this are federated by the SAP DWC to the source systems, if possible.
In the following live demonstration of federated access, you will learn:
- To set up a live data connection between SAP Data Warehouse Cloud and AWS Redshift
- Create data models in the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud based on remote tables from AWS Redshift.
- How to visualise live data from AWS Redshift in SAP Analytics Cloud in an interactive dashboard
For more details on data federation between SAP DWC and Amazon Redshift, see here.
3 good reasons for using SAP DWC
- Amazon Redshift offers high performance and fast processing speeds for a low cost compared to the market.
- Many companies therefore use AWS Redshift as a data lake for analytical use cases.
- SAP ERP data is often stored on systems other than the data lake. Here, the SAP DWC can serve as a bridge.
